Meet Rickie Sugars, an artist whose journey is as vibrant and multifaceted as his abstract cubism expressionism. Born in Kelowna, B.C. in 1976, Rickie discovered the power of art as a child, finding peace and purpose in painting and drawing. This early passion led to an impressive debut: his first gallery showing and sale at just 17. Since then, Rickie's signature style—bold colors and strong black outlines—has captivated audiences in galleries and shows throughout British Columbia.
Rickie's artistic curiosity is insatiable. After graduating from Vancouver Film School with a focus on classical animation, he co-founded an animation company, bringing characters to life. But the call of new artistic frontiers was strong. In 2004, he delved into tattooing, eventually establishing his own shop and pioneering sculptures crafted from discarded toys. Whether he's painting a canvas, designing crafting stickers, creating postcards, or transforming walls with intricate murals and graffiti, Rickie is constantly pushing boundaries. Rickie Sugars is an artist in perpetual motion, always learning, evolving, and fearlessly embracing new avenues for creative expression that is deeply inspired by his Indigenous heritage. His distinctive approach sets his work apart, showcasing a talent that truly knows no bounds.
